Many times we hear that video games are dangerous and cause brain damage and epilepsy.
Large amounts of hours spent in front of video games can cause the same damage as eating tons of junk food.
What I mean is that we need to find the right balance.
Numerous studies show that playing video games is absolutely beneficial for mental and physical health. Let's find out which are the other benefits of playing video games.
The game industry is continually expanding.
The recent lockdown has been ridiculously beneficial for the gaming market.
More and more people needed to find a way out of routine and the use of video games seemed to be the most appreciated.
There is no need to explain how video games are entertaining, and how much they can keep a big family busy
Different surveys demonstrate that most gamers feel less stressed and more relieved after playing video games.
Keeping in mind that video games have a good impact on our mood, what other benefits can add to our lives?
Hand-to-eye coordination
A study from the University of Toronto explained how strategic and action video games help to have more coordination in our bodies. Video games such as Call of Duty or Assassin's Creed have been used during the study. Two groups of people were under observation: Usual players and no players. The task was about maintaining the computer cursor inside a white shape while the background around was moving. At the end of the study, the usual shooting game players obtained better results and they learned more quickly than the non-players. Video games are incredibly useful to improve autism coordination problems.
Multi-tasking ability
Many video games, in particular the action ones, require lots of multitasking. You can probably find yourself in a multi-tasking game, where you need to find your hidden enemy, take care of your energy, and look for a specific object. Without even noticing, you are working on your multi-tasking skills and improving them.
Better Eyesight
After a study conducted in 2012, it looks like playing video games is a great help for your sight. The players pay more attention to the details while looking for secret places, exits, and more. The same is applied in life, but being mindful of the hours spent in front of the screen, can also damage your eyes!
Teamwork skills development
Some video games promote teamwork building. After a study conducted by Brigham Young University, the team that spent at least 40 minutes playing had better work performance than the people working on usual team-building exercises. This means that gaming helps build good chemistry between members of the team.
More physical activity
VR games are the best choice ever if you wanna be fit without effort.VR games are taking the place of many other games for the immersive feature that offers to gamers. While playing and having fun, you have also the chance to lose some weight. What else can we ask for?
Playing video games has a lot of benefits if used in moderation for fun or recreational activities but we still need to be aware that can cause disorders if played in excess.
